Here's my latest. I've made a couple of screenshots alongside.
The lass on the left has a bit of a FOney with the headband eh ... shameless display of female anatomy, shocking innit?

Creating tons of separate layers for the basic colour of each single element like skin, clothes and various others.

Applied on top are more layers for the shading and contrast

When I can convince my own lazy self to do a background, I'll go and doodle about that a bit. "Back in the day" I often took the easy way and just used some photos and stuff, but I'm trying to cut back on that.

Adding more subtle stuff like small jewellery and last but not least, highlighting/lights/spark whatever you call it. There you go, one down.

Thanks for the breakdown on the layers too, very interesting to see the process and detail.

Have you ever considered working on a graphic novel ? maybe colaborating with writers etc?

Me, working on a novel? Hell no. You're forgetting the most important thing about me which is: I'm a lazy bastard. I churn out a pic only months after the last one and usually it takes way too long (not only lazy, but really slow too). Apart from that, I do not think I'd be skilled enough for a graphic novel. Still problems with perspectives and anatomy and don't draw enough for practice. I've got a couple of offers for stuff like homebrew game illustrations over the years, but I've turned them all down. To be honest I could never really imagine doing this for a living, I'd end up hating it real quick.
