Dam... think I just got layed off

Just went to a huge meeting where every revenue producing position in my company (newspaper/media) is being washed and reorganized completely. 180 people(who worked here for over 10 years), are being offered voluntary seperation packages, (ones that I fall just short of qualifying for). In the next few weeks I will be finding out if I will be involuntarily seperated from the company and or able to apply for one of the new positions etc.

I have some good things to fight with. Im considered one of only a few Subject Matter Experts on our new advertising system. I might be able to leverage that, but other than that, I dont have much going for me.

Ive been needing an excuse to go get drunk and beat the crap out of someone, so If you dont see me for a few weeks. Its only cuz im in Jail for a while Evil or Very Mad

either way, they are making it hard to give a crap about my customers today.

ACK!!! Poor Opy! *HUGS* I hope everything works out for you! They can't get rid of you! I hope they realise you are important to the operation ...and.... and ... they gave you a new desk a couple weeks ago! New desk means KEEP ME!

I will find out alot more in a meeting for our department tomorrow, but I wont know for sure about my place (or no place) with the company till August 15th. Guess I get to sit around and sweat for a few weeks. :/

I think the it depends alot on the group of 180 people who are being offered packages, and whether they accept them or try to stay with the company.

Clean out old spaces for new beginninns..This is the year of 1.the year of change.. so dont fear if something happens, it could be better than you think. we are all on the mountain for sometime or another, but we always fall down to the valley. if we didnt have the oppertunity to climb back to the top, life would be lame. Yea looks like ima have to find a new job as well. Ive been at my job 9 years it would be 10 in oct. But oh well its just a job.

P.S. Only thing that pisses me off is I still have yet to buy a psp ><.

Well.. Today was the big day. We all had meetings set up to find out what new position we would have. Or got notices for seperation.

I was lucky in some ways, and unlucky in others. I got my meeting and found out I was going to be doing something similar. (phew, got to keep a job). But the compensation they showed me was literally about 18k less per year than I am making now.

At first I stayed humble. I knew i was lucky in some ways, but then after a few hours I figured out I needed to fight for my worth etc.

I talked to a few people about my disgust, not in a mean way. and by the end of the day, I had a director
at my desk telling me that she would make sure I at least am capeable of making what I made last year. She let me know how valuble I was etc. So that was nice. But my nerves are shot, and now I'm going to go have a few beers. lol.

Just glad I made it through this war alive. I watched 150 or so people around me get axed. About 10 or so that I knew very well. Also found out that the company is selling a bunch of Its newspapers, and some other print media companies. For now I think i'm safe, but I think im going to steer twords other directions besides print for the future.

Anyway, not that interesting, but its good to forum vent. lol.
